- (Fraxinus excelsior).
- The Ash is a traditional woodland species best suited to deep well-drained sites. It is one of the last trees to come into leaf and is one of the first to loose its leaves in the autumn. Its flowers are very dark, nearly black and come out before the leaves develop. Will tolerate exposed sites.
