England - Hedging in the Blackdowns I

Towards sustainability     NB0886     Fri 28 Nov 2008  to  Sun 30 Nov 2008
BIODIVERSITY
The Blackdown Hills were designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1991 covering 360 sq kilometres in total and is characterised by being relatively isolated and unspoilt. With a varied landscape and loads of wildlife on offer, this really is a special place.

Come and learn the traditional task of hedgelaying at Lower Mackham Farm, nr Hemyock, a privately owned small holding that is managed with wildlife and conservation in mind and is visited by many local schools.

Staying at Dunkeswell Village Hall, near Honiton in rural Devon and surrounded by stunning scenery, the hall has toilets and washing facilities as well as a fully fitted kitchen. Showers are available at a nearby sports club.

This is a great opportunity to see this amazing part of the country while doing something beneficial for the wildlife of the area.
