Drey's Ditches on the edge of North Luton is a scheduled ancient monument. It is a linear bank and ditch feature dating back to the bronze age. Archaeology has shown it once had a palisade and it crosses the route of the ancient (pre roman) Icknield Way. A Public Right Of Way runs all the way along its length. and we will be laying a hedge to one side of this popular footpath.
On the first morning there will be a short talk from Luton Borough Council about the site and its importance to the area.
For this type of work sturdy footwear is essential (either steel toe capped boots or strong hiking boots)
Our accommodation for the weekend is at the Leslie Sell Activity Centre in Bromham, just outside Bedford (which entails a 45 minutes journey to and from the work site), Staying in the dormitory block, the dormitories have heating, toilets (showers available in a separate block), kitchen and lounge area.
In the evening you could visit Bedford with its many attractions. Priory Country Park is close by and a walk along the embankment itself is recommended.
